Visitor Visa

If you’re planning a trip to Canada to visit family, friends, or explore this beautiful country, you may need a Visitor Visa (Temporary Resident Visa). A visitor visa allows you to enter Canada for tourism, family visits, or other temporary purposes, typically for up to six months per visit.

What is a Visitor Visa?

A Visitor Visa (also called a Temporary Resident Visa or TRV) is an official document placed in your passport that shows you meet Canadian entry requirements as a temporary visitor. It does not grant you the right to work or study in Canada—you’ll need separate permits for those purposes.

Who Needs a Visitor Visa?

Most foreign nationals require a visitor visa to enter Canada. Some travelers from visa-exempt countries instead require an eTA (Electronic Travel Authorization) if flying to Canada. The rules depend on your citizenship, travel history, and purpose of visit.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for a Canadian Visitor Visa, you generally must:

Have a valid passport or travel document.

Be in good health and have no serious criminal or immigration history.

Show you have strong ties to your home country and will leave Canada at the end of your visit.

Demonstrate sufficient funds to support your stay in Canada.

You may also need to provide additional documents such as a letter of invitation from someone in Canada or undergo a medical exam depending on your circumstances.

How We Can Help

Preparing a visitor visa application can be complex, and even small errors can lead to delays or refusals. At Briere Immigration, we help you:

Determine whether you need a visitor visa or an eTA.

Understand the documents required and how to assemble them correctly.

Prepare letters of invitation and proof of ties to your home country.

Submit your application with confidence, either online or through a visa application centre.

Professional guidance can significantly reduce stress and improve the clarity of your application.

What Happens After You Apply

Once your visitor visa application is submitted, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will assess it and may request additional documents or biometrics. Processing times vary by country and application volume.

If approved, your visa will be placed in your passport. At the Canadian port of entry, a border services officer will determine your length of stay—usually up to six months.
